Google is stepping up its education push in Southeast Asia with a new “Gemini Connect” series, a set of in‑person events for school and university leaders designed to showcase how its Gemini AI can be embedded across teaching, learning, and campus operations.

The roadshow, which is being staged in countries around the region, is relevant for professionals in higher education, CIOs, ICT heads and policy makers who are under pressure to modernise classrooms and curriculum with AI‑driven tools.

At the heart of the series is Google’s portfolio of AI features built into Google Workspace and ChromeOS that promises to help teaching professionals generate lesson material, automate administrative work and personalise learning.

Google pitches its AI portfolio; Gemini, as “built responsibly and securely”, leaning on its existing footprint of Google Workspace for Education deployments to reassure institutions about data protection as AI enters the classroom.

The Southeast Asia education market has become a strategic test bed for Google’s AI ambitions, with governments simultaneously expanding connectivity, device programmes and digital curricula.

In March, Google for Education highlighted that Gemini for Education has been enabled across all 20 public universities in Malaysia, covering almost 600,000 students and 75,000 faculty members, signalling how quickly large systems in the region can move when there is clear top down support and direction.

The timing aligns with a broader push by governments and industry bodies to translate AI momentum into economic growth, with education and skills development repeatedly identified as priority pillars.

AI‑ready schools and universities have potential to become a long‑term differentiator for the region’s digital economy – with the Gemini platform sitting at the centre of that transformation.
